Trades NL’s Indigenous Office Debuts Industry Video

For Immediate Release

June 14th, 2022 –Trades NL’s Indigenous Office is proud to announce the official public debut of their industry video, first premiering during the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum at the start of National Indigenous History Month – demonstrating the office’s continued dedication to recruiting, promoting, supporting and advancing the economic growth of Indigenous Peoples of Newfoundland and Labrador within the skilled trades.

Featuring Indigenous Leaders from Newfoundland and Labrador, the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and several Indigenous Tradespeople – this new video speaks to the importance of hiring and progressing Indigenous Peoples within the trades, the positive impacts of the office on Indigenous Residents and exuberates pride for the building trades and construction industry.

“Created specifically for Indigenous Tradespeoples, with a particular emphasis on red seal occupations, this office and video further showcases Trades NL’s commitment towards diversity and inclusion,” says Trades NL’s Executive Director, Darin King. “Thanks to our Indigenous Office’s presence, we are better positioned to establish a more even playing field amongst skilled trades workers in our industry – and we see its services critical to supporting Indigenous Tradespeople; helping them to become leaders within the Newfoundland and Labrador construction industry.”

“Having our office in operation these past two years has given us plenty of reasons to celebrate,” said Trades NL’s Indigenous Office Manager, Stanley Oliver. “The resources we provide to Indigenous skilled trades workers have played an integral role in providing meaningful work to so many in our province – encouraging Indigenous Peoples to see their full potential. As we are seeing exponential demand for our services, it is our hope that this video will stand as a reminder that Trades NL is here to support Indigenous Peoples across Newfoundland and Labrador and that our world-class support staff are continuously dedicated to ensuring their success within the building trades and construction industry.”

All Indigenous Tradespersons or students currently enrolled in a trades training program are encouraged to contact our office.
