For Immediate Release:
June 21st, 2022 – Today marks National Indigenous Peoples Day, a time to celebrate and learn about the rich history, culture and diversity of Indigenous Peoples.
In celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day, Trades NL’s Indigenous Office is proud to showcase their industry video, first premiering during the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum at the start of National Indigenous History Month. The video demonstrates Trades NL’s continued dedication to recruiting, promoting, supporting and advancing the economic growth of Indigenous Peoples of Newfoundland and Labrador within the skilled trades.
In 2019, Trades NL in partnership with the Government of Newoundland and Labrador created a dedicated office for Indigenous skilled trade workers, The Labrador Office for Indigenous and Northern Skilled Trades, that serves Indigenous Populations across the province and is dedicated to recruiting, promoting, supporting and advancing the economic growth of Indigenous Peoples of Newfoundland and Labrador within the skilled trades – with an emphasis on red seal occupations.
“Trades NL is proud to celebrate the unique diversity of our members, especially those of Indigenous background,” says Darin King, Executive Director, Trades NL. “Indigenous Peoples are hardworking, collaborative leaders – bringing so much to the building trades and construction workforce. We look forward to continuing our support for them through Trades NL’s Indigenous Office and encourage all Indigenous Tradespersons or students currently enrolled in a trades training program to reach out to our office staff.”
“National Indigenous Peoples Day is an important and significant day to our members and our staff at Trades NL’s Indigenous Office,” says Stanley Oliver, Manager, Trades NL: Labrador Office for Indigenous & Northern Skilled Trades. “We are committed to celebrating the diversity of Indigenous Peoples today and every day – by enhancing our industries workforce through diversity and inclusion – and by providing the resources needed to support Indigenous tradespeople and their communities across Newfoundland and Labrador.”
