Trades NL Launches Career Development Program for Members

October 12th, 2022 – Trades NL, in partnership with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, has launched a new career growth and development program for members, intended to supplement and enrich their formal skilled trades training.

Starting this month, courses will be taught throughout the province both in-person and virtually, and aim to aid in the soft-skill development of members for a more robustly educated industry.

“These courses will ensure that a continuous effort is made to upskill our members, giving them the flexibility to learn, advance and upgrade skills that will help them grow professionally,” says Trades NL’s Executive Director, Darin King. “We look forward to the impact it will have on our membership and the industry as a whole for years to come.”

“As our industry grows, so does the need to develop new skillsets,” says Gerard Murphy, Business Manager of SMART Local 512 and Member of Trades NL’s Professional Development Advisory Committee. “We wanted to create content that would better serve our members and give them the tools to develop their soft-skills – we look forward to seeing our members in the classroom and seeing them succeed.”

Course offerings include: Introduction to Computers, Personal Finances, iPhone Basics, Leadership, Career Development in the Trades, and Diversity and Inclusion.
