To: The Honourable Pam Parsons, Minister Responsible for Women and Gender Equality I write you to show my support for the implementation of gender equity and diversity provisions on publicly-funded infrastructure projects and resource infrastructure projects in Newfoundland & Labrador. I believe the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador can do more to ensure women in the skilled trades industry receive equitable consideration for employment opportunities within resource development and public infrastructure construction projects happening in Newfoundland and Labrador. For public infrastructure projects, specifically, women deserve to be given consideration to be employed on these projects to achieve a truly stimulated economy, as taxpayers and owners. As the leader of our provincial government, we expect you to use a diversity lens for all construction work to level the playing field for: fair wages and hiring of qualified women workers and apprentices. I believe that championing a diverse workforce will only strengthen the economy and help make this province more competitive to build capacity and attract new business and ask that you actively support the implementation of these provisions.
