TRADES NL CELEBRATES NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY

June 21st, 2023 – Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day, a time to celebrate and learn about the rich history, culture and diversity of Indigenous Peoples.

“Trades NL is proud to celebrate the unique diversity of our members. Indigenous Peoples are hardworking, collaborative leaders who bring so much to the building trades and construction workforce,” says Darin King, Executive Director of Trades NL.

“This year, we take pride in the growth of our Indigenous Skilled Trades Office. This spring, we expanded our office in Labrador to Corner Brook and St. John’s. This achievement is part of our commitment to serve more status and non-status Indigenous Peoples interested in seeking employment opportunities in the skilled trades.”

The Labrador Indigenous Skilled Trades Office has around 570 clients to date. Approximately 23 per cent of the clients are now employed in the skilled trades and 22 per cent of those are female.

“We are committed to celebrating the diversity of Indigenous Peoples today and every day – by enhancing our industries workforce through diversity and inclusion – and by providing the resources needed to support Indigenous tradespeople and their communities across Newfoundland and Labrador,” says Stanley Oliver, Manager, Indigenous Skilled Trades Office.
