News Release

Skilled Trade Workers Supporting Community Food Sharing Association

Today, Trades NL and member unions represented the skilled trade workers from across the province to present $20,000 to Mr. Eg Walters from the Community Food Sharing Association.

“Our skilled craft recognize the valuable role that food banks and their volunteers provide in communities across our province, where our members live too.  So, after the recent fire to the warehouse, our members immediately wanted to step forward and provide assistance.”

  • Darin King, Executive Director, Trades NL

The $20,000 donation is the collective effort of Trades NL, representing all 16 trade unions, and three (3) individual unions:

Trades NL                                                    $5,000

Sheet Metal Workers, Local 512              $5,000

Labourers, Local 1208                             $5,000

Teamsters, Local 855                               $5,000

TOTAL                $20,000

According to the Community Food Sharing Association, every $10 leverages $430 worth of food.  Therefore, today’s $20,000 from the unionized skilled trade workers in this province will assist the food banks to leverage $860,000 worth of food.

Trades NL is an umbrella labor organization which promotes and coordinates the interests of 16 building and construction trades unions, their international affiliates, and more than 15,000 trades workers in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
